February Pitching Clinics
For February we’re offering something new in the pitching clinic. There will be two sessions for different age groups (Session One 9-12; Session Two 13-16). Each session consists of two 75 minutes periods of instruction (see below for dates and times). We’ve brought in guest instructor Matt Field (see bio below) to lead this clinic and are confident that these pitching clinics will be valuable experience for future hurlers of all ages.
About Matt Field
I grew up with a baseball in my hand. Since I was 4 I was organizing pickup games in the back yard and rooting for the Chicago Cubs. I played all five years at MVHS and played in the state championship my Junior year. Following my high school graduation I returned to MVHS to become an assistant coach as a pitching, hitting and infield instructor.
I was fortunate to be personally mentored by pitching coach and National Pitching Association (NPA) creator, Tom House (pitching coach to Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, and currently on staff at USC). During my time with Tom I learned the techniques and mechanics of some of the greatest big league pitchers.
Today I have turned my attention to coaching my twin 11-year-old boys and their team. I strive to teach all young men the proper mechanics of pitching, correct bad habits that can limit ability, and help kids reach the next level of competitive baseball.
My pitching philosophy includes:
- Proper stretching and warming up
- Arm motion
- Injury prevention
- Mental toughness
